Planning for the Vegetarian Dinner Guest
Perhaps you have been faced with this, a dinner guest that is a vegetarian. All your standby dishes do not seem to apply. Even if they are all veggie, they are more like side dishes, then mains. You get the news of your vegetarian party member, and plenty runs through your mind, do I just make vegetarian dishes, and hope everyone is content, or do I do double work and prepare variations?
Well, whether you opt to work double or not, you must find something to please the vegetarian. Nobody wants a guest to feel like they were an afterthought, so something special appears to be in order, but that too means extra work. Well, get too it, and find solace in the knowledge that you will know have a fab recipe under your belt for the future.
I will tell you that personally I think steering clear of traditional dishes that would involve meat are best left alone. For meat lovers, being served a spinach lasagne, or all vegetable pot pie is not always a happy moment. Instead, dishes such as a mushroom tart, or a quiche will not leave anyone feeling that they were missing any ingredient. This way all should be content, and hopefully satisfied.
